For many years, I struggled with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, painful PMS, skin issues, and hormonal imbalances. These challenges took a toll on my self-esteem and left me feeling stuck and disconnected from my own energy.
I’ve always believed in the power of energy, the subconscious mind, and taking action to shift your life. So, one day, I decided to break the cycle. Even though my finances were tight and I kept telling myself I couldn’t afford a healthy lifestyle, I knew something had to change.
So I made a plan, a routine filled with simple, powerful habits that started transforming my mind, body, and energy from the inside out. Many of them are free, and they rewired the way I felt, thought, and showed up in the world.
🌬️ Breathwork
My first shift started with becoming aware of my breath. I explored free YouTube videos on techniques like pranayama (from India), breath holds (apnea), and the Wim Hof Method. I practiced daily and paired it with mindful breaks to reconnect with my body and the present moment. Breathwork helped calm my anxiety and panic attacks and actually changed my brain chemistry.
📚 Reading for Growth
I heard a quote that stuck with me:
"Successful people have big libraries. Everyone else has big TVs."
So I removed the TV from my bedroom, stopped watching the news, and dove into personal development books. I didn’t have money to buy them, so I borrowed from friends or local libraries. That’s how I began rewiring my mindset and with it, abundance, health, and purpose started flowing back into my life.
🌿 Nature & Grounding
I started grounding by placing my bare feet on the earth for 10–20 minutes a day in nearby parks. I paired that with meditation and breathwork outdoors. I joined hiking and walking clubs, low-cost or free and found a tribe of like-minded souls who still walk this journey with me today. Nature became my greatest healer and my biggest source of inspiration.
🧘🏻 Meditation
I began meditating 22 years ago, after losing someone I loved. At the time, nobody around me was talking about meditation or mental health. But in that silence, I found clarity and eventually, I found my purpose. Meditation has brought me the deepest self-awareness, something I believe every human deserves to cultivate.
🥄 Functional Nutrition
My healing journey led me to learn everything I could about holistic health, functional foods, herbal remedies, Ayurveda, adaptogens, and superfoods, long before these terms were common in Colombia. Adding mushrooms, spices, and adaptogens to my routine was a game-changer. They helped me bring my body back into balance and supported my emotional health naturally.
🤝 Intentional Connections
Going to wellness events, seeking mentorship, and expanding my network became key to my growth. I pushed myself to attend events alone so I could meet people outside of my usual circle. Today, building meaningful relationships and being part of a conscious community is one of my non-negotiables.
🧘🏽♀️ Movement = Medicine
You don’t need a fancy gym membership to move your body. I started by walking, doing yoga in the park, following YouTube workouts at home, even dancing. I signed up for affordable classes at local wellness centers ,that’s where I met people who inspired my journey, and where I began to truly reconnect with my body and mind.
These are just a few of the habits that helped me break toxic cycles and step into a more balanced, abundant version of myself.
